ABOUT THE GALLERY
(and Women's Sports Lounge)

The Summitt is a contemporary immersive digital art and film gallery in Northtown Arcata, California. Since 2023, we have presented more than 50 extraordinary, recognized artists in a variation of multiple exhibitions.

We have an international profile and center our local community; we are currently becoming well-known for innovative mixtures and sensual tinctures of ‘diverse programming’ featuring a consistent line up of live women’s sports and new media exhibitions that feature exceptional artists presented in radical real and un-real immersive exhibition spaces… be ready to pick up the phone. Also, we have a rather particular way of doing things over here at The Summitt: NO TIPS!  We direct any tipping efforts from our guests to go directly to the Artists & Filmmakers! We have a continuously building formula and system for guests to discover the artists and filmmakers on show; guests are directed to give a follow, be instantly linked to a way of giving $$$ directly to the artists and filmmakers on show, and (if applicable) be directed to your ‘online shop’ to make a purchase for their own collection!

The gallery space is thoughtfully designed and all immersive spaces are curated monthly as well as additional scheduling for special events and short-run installations, artist talks and/or performances, etc.. Throughout the immersive gallery space of The Summitt, we aspire to the highest caliber of design and humaning (together).  We are in consultation with our artists for every exhibition.  We provide a range of high-quality display equipment and technologies that continues to be built upon and one of the most comprehensive collections in the region.  The gallery space is 1400 sq ft depending on the exhibition. 

We are located amidst some of the most stellar views of northern California, and when the weather is good, the sun will be shining on the rooftop from dawn to dusk (it’s one of the best seats in the house!).  We have a gallery lounge bar that serves beer, wine, prosecco as well as non-alcoholic beverages; we direct all tips to the pockets and shops of our artists (please inquire for more information).  We have access to a technologically ready space for artist talks and presentations, in-person or online workshops, and more intimate curated performances.

Deputy Curator Trey Cartier is the Founding Director and Lead Curator for the exhibitions and events calendar. They have several decades of experience in time-based, electronic media and new media art, working with artists, art professionals and galleries world-wide. 

ABOUT THE SUBMISSION PROCESS

We welcome and encourage artists of all backgrounds to submit their work. All applications will be reviewed, given genuine witnessing and consideration, and be thoughtfully integrated into the collection of works and artist/filmmaker community at The Summitt as well as being amplified for monthly curated shows in particular arrangements that ‘make the best sense’.   

• We present a variation of digital art, 360 storytelling and game designs, and conceptual film installations as well as short narratives, documentaries, animated films and mixed media, textiles and music.
• We center technology-based work and forms of new media art made, presented and transmitted by technology including time-based media, electronic media, digital media, robotics and biotechnology.
• We present exceptional international, national, regional, including work from metro Humboldt.

• We curate group exhibitions in-house. We also present solo exhibitions. • We accept complete exhibition proposals or curatorial proposals. We also accept links and material connected with individual, artistic practice, preferably from the artist or representative. We accept recommendations. • Your work must have been created in the last 30 years.
• If you live in metro Humboldt, we will expect you to have visited or plan to visit the gallery space and one of our exhibitions or events.
• We do not produce works nor can we commission works for the gallery… but we WILL direct any interest to tips from our patrons to go directly to your shop or pocket. • We will present artists with longstanding reputations alongside emerging or mid-career artists.

• Exhibition participation is requested through a formal email request.
